Benefits of Reiki & FAQ

Reiki is not only an option for physical healing but mental, emotional and spiritual growth as well. By opening up to this energy, it is often believed that those individuals would be more capable of seeing the synchronicity in life and be able to let life flow.

Although Reiki has traditionally been used as a healing system, it is also effective as a way to help increase awareness, insight, wisdom and personal growth. After all, it is the energy that connects our higher self with everything around us. It is a bridge between the ancient traditions of healing and the modern-day scientific model.

Reiki is safe to use if you have medical conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes or heart conditions. You may receive a Reiki treatment is you are undergoing chemotherapy. Pregnant women can have Reiki treatments to support them through all stages of pregnancy. Reiki is for everyone!

REIKI FAQs

1) What is Reiki?

Reiki (Pronounced -Ray Key) is spiritually guided energy connecting to the energy system in your body. Reiki assists in opening up and clearing the energy system in your body to promote healing.

2) Where did Reiki originate?

Reiki was founded in Japan in 1914 by Dr. Mikao Usui.

3) What is Reiki Session Like?

Healing is very personal. Everyone has had different experiences in their life which directly affect their energy system. Each Reiki session varies depending upon the individual and the healing that is being required. In general, Reiki sessions are very relaxing and comforting to people. After a brief introduction, you will be asked to lie fully clothed on a massage table. You will be covered with a blanket (if cold) and gentle music will be playing in the background to help you leave your concerns outside. Since I am concentrating on your energy system I do not talk during a Reiki session unless you initiate it. Many people doze off into a light sleep during the session. Some people feel different sensations such as heat, tingly movements, waves, heaviness or lightness. Some people see colors, symbols, pictures or even have thoughts from a long time ago. A Reiki session varies so much because it is personalized just for you. Since it is a loving energy source it is always working to heal you for your highest good.

4) What should I wear to a Reiki Session?

You are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing. You will remove glasses, shoes and unnecessary heavy jewelry/watches. Since you remain fully clothed it is important for you to be completely comfortable. I also ask that you leave your cell phone and other electronic devices off so there are no interruptions during your session.

5) What if I’m seeing a Physician, Psychologist or complementary care provider?

Reiki is a wonderful compliment in addition to what you are already working on with your Physician. Reiki does not interfere with medication. Reiki should in no way take the place of licensed medical care. Reiki works in connection with many complementary treatments such as chiropractic, acupuncture, counseling, and physical therapy. I encourage you to share with your physician that you are receiving Reiki so that he/she can take it into account as your symptoms and overall wellness may improve.

6) Do I have to understand what Reiki is to work?

No, Reiki can be difficult to grasp, that is why experiencing Reiki sessions are the only way to better understand how it can help you. Just like you have a circulatory system and muscle system you have an “energy system”. The more you receive Reiki the more your energy system “remembers” to keep the pathways clear and to not hold on to the emotions, thoughts, and feelings that are not naturally good for you. If you are open at least to trying it you will receive the energy on some level. There are many layers to the energy system. As an experienced Reiki practitioner, I work to un-layer the system for the best possible healing for you.

7) How often should I receive Reiki?

It would be wonderful to receive Reiki on a daily basis, however, unless you get trained in Reiki that isn’t realistic. Like most practices that encourage better health (i.e. exercise, diet) it is best to incorporate Reiki as a part of your health routine. After an initial visit, I will discuss with you how often it would be best for you to receive Reiki based on what I feel and your goals. I have found that men & women who receive Reiki 2-4 times a month have reported the most healing benefits. I encourage you to receive 4 sessions one week apart at first to open up and begin balancing your energy system then discuss if you’d like them more spread out. It really depends on you as you ultimately decide what is best for you!

8) Can Reiki help with mental & emotional stress?

Absolutely, Reiki has a huge impact on shifting negative thoughts and emotions back to what is naturally good for you. It is important to understand that this would most likely happen over a series of many treatments and depends largely on what you are doing in between sessions to help with your own personal healing. Reiki can help with depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, the loss of a loved one, eating disorders, and more. If you are seeing a licensed counselor, Reiki could be used as a complement to that work to promote healing on emotional and mental levels. It is important to be open and honest with me and your counselor so we can assist you best. I am not a licensed counselor and do not recommend Reiki as a substitute for psychological care.

9) Can I receive Reiki during Cancer Treatments?

Yes, we are seeing more and more complementary care practices at Cancer Centers and local hospitals. Physicians & Nurses are quickly recognizing the benefits of relaxation and healing that can take place during Reiki sessions and the positive effect it has on patients. Some examples are less pain, less pain medication taken, feeling of comfort, clarity in making decisions, spiritual connection, less nausea, and feeling back to normal after treatments. Reiki should be used only as a complement to your physician's treatment plan.

10) Should I receive Reiki when I have no apparent physical or emotional issues?

Yes, there are always underlying factors that we may not see or feel on the surface. I highly recommend experiencing Reiki on a regular basis for general well-being and overall preventative health. Many people use Reiki to help maintain low blood pressure, for better sleep, as relaxation, and other preventative measures; like they would their diet, exercise and meditation routines.

11) Does Reiki have any religious affiliations?

No, Reiki is not connected with any religious organization. Since energy & love are universal so is Reiki. Men & women from all religious backgrounds practice and receive Reiki.

12) Is Reiki Covered by Insurance?

At this time Reiki is not covered by Health Insurance companies. In some cases, I can work out a payment schedule if necessary. Please just ask.

Reiki is practiced around the world but please keep in mind that the information and techniques of Reiki do not constitute medical advice. Seeking medical advice from a qualified doctor in the case of serious illness is always recommended.
